The article presents information about two books "Not Your Father's Union Movement: Inside the AFL-CIO," edited by Jo-Ann Mort and "The Transformation of U.S. Unions: Voices, Visions, and Strategies From the Grassroots," edited by Ray M. Tillman and Michael S. Cunnings. Both these books are useful additions to the literature of changes in labor. They offer different hut complementary perspectives on the challenges facing labor today. Both address many of the same topics: how and why Sweeney's reform administration came to power, what it's doing to promote new organizing and political initiatives, the importance of community-labor alliances, the challenge of globalization and the role of women and immigrants in unions.
