The article claims that children have no protection against police tactics. The recent issue of the Chicago Tribune talked about a juvenile case. Some time back police had declared that two boys, ages 7 and 8, were the city's youngest-ever murder suspects in the sexual assault and killing of an 11-year-old girl named Ryan Harris. The charges, which had attracted national attention, were soon dropped after a lab report revealed that the girl's clothing contained ejaculate, which preadolescent boys could not have produced. Yet the boys had confessed falsely. It is standard police practice to make a suspect believe that there is an overwhelming amount of evidence that he or she is guilty.
