Since the dawn of June 6, when British and American soldiers stepped on the soil of France, victory has been the faithful companion of the Allies. On all fronts, with the single exception of China, the enemy is being beaten day and night, on land, on the sea, in the air. Even those who have been most cautious in their predictions have been impressed by the excellence of the preparations and the perfection in the execution of the plans. Military events could not move faster or better. With regard to the enemy countries no plan has been announced beyond unconditional surrender. If the need for caution in dealing with enemy countries sufficiently explains the tendency of the Allied governments to leave the entire political problem to military leaders, such an attitude is without justification for the rest of Europe.
