The article focuses on the book "India Without Fable: A 1942 Survey," by Kate Mitchell. The feeling is growing in America that the problem of India is not one for Britain and India alone but one which concerns all the United Nations. The book is written from this point of view in an attempt to instruct the American public about some of the more elemental forces at work in India today. Mitchell has not lived in India, does not know any Indian languages, and relies on second-hand sources. Much is to be said for a survey of India at this time which reads so easily as this one. In comparatively short space the author covers in the contemporary historical manner India's political and social institutions and problems.
