The article focuses on prevailing political conditions in the U.S., as of December 24, 2001. In mid-November 2001, the U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell delivered the U.S. government's long-delayed statement on its plans for re-engaging in efforts to bring peace to the Middle East.
