This article presents information on events related to various socio-political issues in the U.S. F. Murray Abraham stars as the aging monarch forced into an internal struggle when his own turn against him in the Manhattan, New York City-based Public Theater's new production of the play "King Lear." "Bring in 'Da Noise/Bring in 'Da Funk: A Tap/Rap Discourse on the Staying Power of the Beat," using the rhythms and energies of hip-hop and tap, this world-premiere musical smashes the boundaries of traditional forms of musical theater and explores how the beat reveals and defines history. The musical is running at the Public Theater. In June, delegates from 27 independent parties and a dozen progressive organizations wrote the first daft of the Common Ground Declaration. Be there for Round Two at George Washington University on January 5-7 to help finalize the Declaration, meet potential candidates and plan joint action for the 1996 elections.
