The article presents information on the state of theatre in the U.S. It is not primarily the actor's fault that his career is measured in terms of prosperity rather than in those of maturity. Yet it is foolish of actors to believe or to assert that they are, in this regard, simply "victims of the system." The artist creates a system for his own development. The artist- and it need not be a presumption for the publicly recognized actor to conduct himself as an artist-has his own pride because in a certain way he feels himself quite special. It is right and healthy that be should do so. But he is not special in any way when he equates the success of his career with a business man's success.
