The article focuses on several political issues in the United States. U.S. President Harry S. Truman sent a delegation of four distinguished Americans, Ambassador Edward R. Dudley, Major General James S. Stowell, Mary McLeod Bethune, and Carl Murphy, editor of the Afro-American of Baltimore, Maryland, to represent him at the inauguration of President William V.S. Tubman for a second eight-year term as President of Liberia. One can only hope that the members of this delegation were unaware of the circumstances under which President Tubman was reelected; but Truman must have known the facts. Justice William O. Douglas is available for the Democratic nomination this year. Politician Arthur Krock's story in the New York Times of January 14 that Justice Douglas had eliminated himself from consideration for the nomination was one of those curious political exclusives for which Krock is noted and which must be scrutinized with great care.
