This article presents the author's views on the political situation in the United States. The day the U.S. President Bill Clinton released his latest budget proposal it was easy to marvel at his ability to survive. As he celebrated the first zero-deficit budget in nearly three decades, official Washington scratched its collective head over a President whose popularity shoots up while he's ensnared in tawdry scandal. Indeed, the President's budgeteering has an appealing ring. Money for daycare and schools. Protecting Social Security Bashing the tobacco gang. More money for scientific research. Closing tax loopholes for corporations. Just saying no to turning the projected surplus into tax breaks for the rich.
