The article presents discussion on various issues related to politics and government in the U.S. The trend toward media conglomeration and commercialization is not confined to America. A small number of very large corporations have come to dominate new and lucrative media markets all over the world. Campaign finance reformers are celebrating a major victory in Maine, where a federal district court just upheld the constitutionality of that state's pathbreaking Clean Election Act of 1996. Judge Thomas Penfield Jackson's factual findings in United States v. Microsoft Corp., released November 5, spell the doom of Microsoft Corp. These facts can be used against Microsoft in other litigation, of which there will soon be plenty, without having to be proved all over again.
