This article critically appraises the books, "Among My Books," by James Russell Lowell. Opinions of Lowell, who is reportedly one of the best English critics, in this book is referred to as careful opinions of a man of cultivated genius concerning other men of genius who are near and dear to English literature readers. According to Lowell, literature is not song making and story-telling, but is an attempt at expressing truths of the universe, and an expression of the character of the man behind the pen and is not books made about this or that, but is the thought of thinking soul and is a criticism on life.
