This article presents brief descriptions of various recent socio-political issues and developments. It first reports that the sectional character of the vote reducing the duty on pig-iron was exactly reversed on the same day, on the vote increasing the apportionment of Representatives from 240 to 275, by which the West will be the gainer. In the Senate on April 21, 1870, Charles Sumner, U.S. statesman, introduced a substitute for the bill abolishing the franking privilege, which has the merit of coupling the reform with a general recasting of rates. The article further discusses the long disputed matter of disgraceful attacks on the U.S. journalist and political leader, Horace Greeley. Several newspapers, pamphlets, and weekly journals are still criticizing on the noted personality. The New York "Times" pointed out that what Greeley has said in his great work about the wool clip of 1868 was somewhat unconscientious.
