A Political Nuisance

This article presents information regarding Virginia crisis and political activities within the U.S. Senate regarding this issue and predicament of U.S. President Hiram Ulysses Grant. It happened more than once during the rebellion, that Grant's most elaborate plans were upset by friends or enemies, and he was left to struggle along as he best could to the end, with only his faculty of silent endurance to rely upon. Grant met the Congress with a plan of joint action. However, the struggle of conflicting interests in Congress has already caused a scene of confusion, in the midst of which it is impossible to decide who is losing or who is gaining ground; but it is tolerably evident that Grant, the new President, whatever may be his goodwill or anxiety, must sit, with his Cabinet, and look on.
