The article focuses on the announcement of the death of critic, the most delightful and instructive talker upon literature M. Sainte-Beuve. Sainte-Beuve was born at Boulogne of a family that was English on his mother's side. Among the many things for which he had to thank his mother, was knowledge of English and a taste for English literature. Sainte-Beuve, after brilliant successes at colleges, had resisted for a time his own bent towards a literary career, and was pursuing the study of medicine, when the influence of Victor lingo, the great apostle of Romanticism, led him, in 1827, to give himself up to literature.
