The article presents information about various political developments taking place at the international level. According to a snippet, the growing laxity of bonds between church and state in England, Austria, Italy and Spain and the fierce discussions which are raging all over the European continent touching the relations in which the church should stand to the state in an ideal community, together with the near approach of the meeting of a Council at Rome, are all signs that we have almost reached the close of the first stage in the revolt of freedom against authority which began with the Reformation. Another snippet discusses the U.S. administration. U.S. President Ulysses Simpson Grant's first mistake consisted, as understood, in supposing that a government is the same thing as an army and can be carried on, like a battle, with horse, foot and artillery.
