The article focuses on the latest farmers' movement. It is not simply an attempt to secure cheap transportation, but also the latest popular attempt to secure reform. A National Convention representing several different U.S. States has been held at the Astor House. The meeting has resolved that cheap transportation ought to be secured by law and by building more railroads and canals, that cheap transportation is essential to the welfare and prosperity of the country and that the present system of railway management must be radically reformed and controlled by the strong hand of law at both State and national level.
