The article focuses on the report on the Northern Pacific Railroad. The Committee on the Pacific Railroads of the U.S. House made a report upon the resolution of February 13 1872, to investigate and report upon the actual condition of the Northern Pacific railroad company. The statement is voluminous, embracing all the evidence adduced before the committee. The evidence shows that the affairs of the company are in a sound and clean condition. Thus far the road has been constructed by contractors, to whom the work has been let after public competitive bidding. No director, officer, or engineer of the company has been in any way pecuniarily interested in the construction contracts or the purchase of materials and supply.
