The article focuses on the book "Reagan's America: Innocents at Home," by Garry Wills. The present chronicle traces the U.S. President Ronald Reagan's life in details. Wills does manage to identify traces of authenticity in Reagan. His deeply religious mother, a pillar of the Disciples of Christ, oversaw her son's dutiful attendance at church. When a young man, he worked long hours each summer as a lifeguard and rescued a large number of imprudent swimmers, few of whom displayed gratitude for his efforts. Wills has good stories to tell. Reagan's fascination with Star Wars, like so much in his politics, is traceable to the movies.
