History of French Literature

This article presents information on the book, "History of French Literature," vol. 1, by Henri Van Laun. Van Laun is a famous author and specially a translator of various books on literature, such as, "History of English Literature." In the above said book, he made some remarks as to what a history of literature and then specially to the French literature. In early chapters much space is given to Latin culture in Gaul. The Panegyrist, the ecclesiastical writers, the chroniclers, the contemporaries of Charlemagne are all dwelt upon. About fifty of the preceding pages are devoted to the Languedoc, historical region of France, and the Troubandours.
