This article focuses on the book entitled, "Sherman's Historical Raid. The Memoirs in the Light of Record." The book has been written by H.V. Boynton. This book, like all such personal reminiscences, take some tinge of color from the feelings, the natural pride in U.S. General William Tecumseh Sherman's own great deeds, and the instinctive wish to present himself well to the eyes of posterity, which belong to the most candid and honorable mind. Reviews on this book dwells largely upon the fact that since the civil war General Sherman has had uninterrupted access to the official records, and, no doubt, this would be an aggravation of his offence if he should appear to have been reckless or unprincipled in his statements.
