The article presents information about various novels. Some of them are: "The Pillars of the House, or, Under Wode, Under Rode," by Charlotte M. Yonge, "By-and-By. An Historical Romance of the Future," by Edward Maitland and "May." Yonge's "Pillars of the House" is a novel which will get its warmest welcome in leisurely parsonage houses in England, or perhaps in leisurely houses where clergymen are in even higher consideration than they are beneath their own roof. Another good novel is "Penruddock," by Hamilton Aide, whose earlier stories gave proof of considerable ability. This one is written as an autobiography, a form of which the author is rather fond, and sets before people the youth and early manhood of an Englishman who, for certain reasons which are duly given, leaves his home and makes the best way be can in the great world.
