This article focuses on the book "The Vikings of the Baltic," by G.W. Dasent. This last work of Mr. Dasent's is somewhat different in its form, not only from his former literary productions, but also from all those touching the saga-literature which have yet appeared in the English tongue. It is an historical romance, or rather a romantic historical sketch from the Scandinavian Viking life in the latter part of the tenth century. In the reign of the Danish king Harald Bluetooth there arose a magnificent town, called Jomsburgh, on the south coast of the Baltic, at the mouth of the river Oder.
