This article attempts to find Great Britain's opinion on the Suez canal purchase. Up to the present time, both foreign and domestic critics have approved it. "The Times" set the example in this country, and the smaller papers generally follow the lead of the leviathan of the press upon any grave subject of foreign policy. Excellent and independent as these papers are in. their criticism of domestic affairs, they are hesitating and uncertain when. they come to handle foreign affairs. They have no knowledge, and they grope about in the dark. With the exception of the "Economist," which is well informed and judicially-minded, the whole London press has simply rung the changes on the articles in the Times.
