The article presents information on boat races in various colleges of the U.S. Before Harvard university was under way again the three boats of which she had thus far been a consort had drawn entirely clear of her, and she then began rowing hard to regain her place. While she was thus employed her immediate rival, which had kept on without stopping, and was rowing strongly, was working for the lead. Yale university was reported by the signal-man as being first, with Columbia in the second place. This was not a lead with clear water between the boats, but a forcing of the bow of the one boat ahead of that of the other.
