The article presents information about various political developments taking place in the United States and Great Britain. Since the arrival of U.S. General Ulysses Simpson Grant in San Francisco the phenomenon known as the "Grant boom" has again begun to show itself. The success of the Home Rule party in the British House of Commons in compelling the Government to pass the bill founding a new university in Ireland in a shape to suit the Catholic clergy, and in modifying the Army Discipline Act, has given Irish discontent a weight which it has not had in English eyes since the death of Irish leader Daniel O'Connell, and a respectability which it has not had within this century.
