In the book "The Media Monopoly," writer Ben Bagdikian notes that "in 1981 there were forty-six corporations that controlled most of the business in daily newspapers, magazines, television, books and motion pictures. Five years later the number had shrunk to twenty-nine." It is now 1988 and the shrinkage continues. In 1965 the author's editor at Little, Brown & Company, the late Harry Sions, told him that Time Inc's intended purchase of the company would make no difference in the quality of books Little, Brown produced.
