In his article, The Main Thing to Remember, author Alexander Cockburn writes in his curious effort to discredit the authenticity of the recently discovered cave paintings in the Ardéche "is that experts are mostly worthless, and most evidence open to challenge or fraudulent. Cockburn forthwith, without a scrap of skeptical reservation, appeals to the whimsical authority and capricious evidence of the painter Alex Melamid, who claims that "these were pictures made by someone who had experience of photography." Melamid's paintings cannot predate the photographs that record animals in motion.
