The article discusses some of the political and economic updates related to the U.S. The late election in New York was grossly mismanaged. If the Republicans had entered into the struggle on State questions, it would have perhaps been sufficient for their purpose, as it would give them possession of the State offices; but they entered upon it avowedly on national issues, for the exclusive purpose of producing a moral influence, which would affect the U.S. President election. The very close connection in New York between the prices of active securities and the success of the theatrical season has often been noticed with a prophetic vision of the returning prosperity, which has already marked effects in Wall Street.
