The article presents information on various socio-political development around the world. The extraordinary popularity of some of the works of Eugéne Emmanuel Viollet-le-Duc is a sufficient reason for devoting to his life and labors an amount of space which American journals seldom find it convenient to give to a writer in another tongue than the English. The formation of Halifax Commission and an enormous sum was paid as award to settle all disputes about the fisheries in Canadian waters. The Republicans of Maine were unable to make any impression on the Greenback vote and came near losing the state.
