The article presents information on various socio-political developments around the world. During the week $8,577,000 more foreign specie arrived at New York, of which all except $720,000 consisted of gold. This brings the total specie imports since the resumption of specie payments up to $39,700,000, all of which, except about $4,500,000, has arrived since the first day of August, or during the months of August and September. The elections for direct electors to choose deputies to the Prussian Diet took place on Tuesday last, with a result, so far as is known at this writing, decidedly adverse to the Chancellor's pretensions. The conflict between the Government and the clergy over the management of the public schools in Belgium grows more bitter.
