The article reports on recent socio-political developments during 1879. The Congressional Committee which has been investigating the conduct of the U.S. supervisors at the last election at Cincinnati finished its enquiry. It was proved that money was spent by the Republican Campaign Committee, and by Messers Butterworth and Young, to secure the election of Democratic memorialists. The Legislature of New Hampshire has passed an act for the protection of the rights of holders of the bonds of repudiating States which may have important results. The expenses of the prosecution are to be paid by the owner of the claim.
