This article presents information regarding the poem "The Lover's Tale," by Alfred Tennyson. This youthful poem of Tennyson, written in his nineteenth year, is founded upon a tale of Giovanni Boccaccio. The lover, Julian, relates the story of his childhood, passed in constant companionship with his cousin and foster-sister, Camila, who was of the same age and received the same care as himself. In his eighteenth year one summer day when they were wandering together, and he seems to have been on the point of declaring his love for her, she confided to him her love for his cousin Lionel.
