This article focuses on some political developments related to the United States. U.S. President Rutherford B. Hayes has sent in a message vetoing the bill containing the appropriation for the expenses of the United States marshals, because it makes no provision for their expenses in attending elections; also another message, urging Congress to provide for the payment of the marshals and their deputies during the coming fiscal year, as the appropriations from which they draw their pay expire on July 1.
