The article presents information on the book "Hamdbuch der Archäologie der Kunst," by Carl Bernhard Stark. This is the first part of the first volume of a comprehensive work on the archeology of art, to be completed in three octavo volumes. It contains one of three books which are intended as an introductory and systematic essay on archeology, a science whose limits, according to the author, have hitherto been arbitrarily restricted, in striking contrast with the latitude implied by the very derivation of the term. The notes, which form about two-thirds of the volume, indicate the sources from which Stark has drawn his information. They bear evidence of the immense amount of conscientious labor bestowed by him on a subject which has few rivals in comprehensive interest.
