The article presents information on the book "The History of New York During the Revolutionary War," by Thomas Jones. The history of the American Revolution could never be truly written. This book is a contribution to its story, heated with the passions of the time, from one of that class which suffered worse than defeat in the exile and ruin inflicted by their countrymen. It lacks method, gravity, reflection, candor, almost all the qualities of history. The condition of New York City in 1752 is described as one of peace and harmony. All that threatened its happiness was the conspiracy of three young lawyers, William Livingston, William Smith, and John Morin Scott, "to pull down church and state, and raise their own government and religion upon its ruins."
