The article presents information about the Treat of Berlin. The retrocession of Eastern Rumelia to Turkey was chiefly the work of England, during the negotiations of the Treaty of Berlin. Eastern Rumelia, or the part of Bulgaria extending on the southern side of the Balkans, was not allowed at Berlin to remain with Bulgaria proper, extending on the northern side. There can be no longer any question of the famous integrity of the Ottoman Empire, one after the other the European parts of this Empire are torn from it or allowed to separate from it. The Crimean War, begun under the pretence of protecting the integrity of the Ottoman Empire, ended in the final separation of Wallachia and Moldavia.
