The article presents political updates of the U.S., as of May 15, 1879. U.S. President's veto of the Military Interference Bill is shorter, and on the whole stronger, than the first. The bill, as passed by the U.S. Congress, provided that "it shall not be lawful to bring to or employ at any place where a general or special election is being held in a State" any part of the army or navy, unless it be required "to repel the armed enemies of the United States," or to enforce that clause of the Constitution which authorizes the use of troops on the application of the legislature or executive of a State. According to another update, the adoption of the California Constitution has brought the people of that State face to face with some very serious questions, and as might have been predicted, the vote has produced a feeling in all the centers of population little short of dismay.
