The article focuses on political conditions of the U.S., as of February 20, 1879. How much the Republican party will put up with from some of its leaders in the way of insincerity, but the debate and passage of the Chinese Immigration Bill must have brought the more honest and intelligent members of the party considerably nearer the last limits of their patience. The National Law which shall compel Railways to make public all matters pertaining to their compensation for all descriptions of service, is an essential preliminary to any effective attempt at learning to what extent national regulation of railway transportation shall be required or permitted.
