The article focuses on the book "Six Months in Ascension. An Unscientific Account of a Scientific Expedition," by Isobel Gill. The book has a very readable account of one of those expeditions to distant parts so frequently undertaken by astronomers for the purpose of scientific observations. David Gill is a Scotch astronomer, who has gained a high reputation within the last few years by his observations and investigations as well as by some ingenious inventions. The instrument which Gill took with him to make the necessary measurements on Mars was one excellently adapted to the purpose, a heliometer loaned by Lord Lindsay.
