The article presents information about various political developments taking place in the U.S. According to a snippet, during the last ten years four distinct autonomous geographical and geological surveys, besides the Coast and Geodetic Survey and the sixteen virtually independent surveys now connected with the Land Office, have been conducted simultaneously. Naturally the results in detail are found to be of limited value for the more important national purposes. According to another snippet, speculations about the next U.S. President a year and a half before his nomination would seem to be a sort of work which were best left to professional politicians, particularly in view of the notorious fact that the persons most talked about beforehand seldom obtain the nomination.
