This article discusses the book "History of Maryland From the Earliest Period to the Present Day," by J. Thomas Scharf. The work is an attempt to give a full and minute history of the province and the state of Maryland from the earliest of the Chesapeake Bay and its shores down to the present day. This charter is almost identical in terms with that of Maryland: a fact which disposes of the generally received notion that the peculiar liberality of the latter was due entirely to the personal affection of Charles I.
