The article presents information on the International Meridian Conference in which it was adopted to name Greenwich as the prime meridian from which longitudes are in future to be counted. The resolution in regard to the Universal Day provided that such day should be the civil day of Greenwich. The Conference was merely a consultative body, and no real effect could be given to its recommendations until the scientific men of each country had practically accepted its conclusions and until the proper authority within each state had at least legalized the new prime meridian. With regard to the adoption of Greenwich as the prime meridian for longitudes, the effect of the Conference has been to give some impetus to a movement which was already strong.
