The article presents information on the Russian bank swindles. The Bank of Skopin was established in the town of that name, in the Government of Riazan, in the year 1863, at a time when there was considerable industrial activity and a prospect of success for a well-managed enterprise of that sort. In that year there was a deficit of 54,000 rubles (about $42,000) in the bank's funds. For fifteen long years, incredible as it may seem, this gigantic swindle went on unchecked. All the benefactions were stolen from the bank and were entered on the books as payments to dummy customers.
