This article focuses on the book "History of China," by Demetrius Charles Boulger. Boulger's labor on the two previous works quoted in the title-page of this one has probably suggested the preparation of a compend of Chinese history which should furnish English readers with a digest of its leading events, and aid them in following the growth and fortuilcs of the Black-haired Race. They have now become comparatively well acquainted with the Chinese of the present day, and an attempt to narrate the changes and describe the great actors in their long past is likely, if well done, to meet the wishes of many readers.
