This article literary appraises the book "The Peninsular Campaign of General McClellan in 1862." The nature of this book is to some extent peculiar. It consists of papers of unequal length and unequal merit, prepared either by committees or by single members' of the Society, and read before it at various times between 1878 and 1880. Taken together, they make up a somewhat fragmentary history or criticism of the entire campaign to which they refer. A short paper by C.A. Whittier, entitled "Comments on the Campaign", concludes the volume.
