The article focuses on the book The Young Nimrods in North America. A Book for Boys, by Thomas W. Knox. The author, in his instruction, states that the adventures of George and Harry are quite within the range of easy probability, but a perusal of the book convince readers that it contains no more improbable statement than this. The boys whose experiences are narrated begin their exploits in the woods of Maine, where, under the care of a benevolent and accomplished doctor, they take their first lessons in woodcraft, and kill a bear and moose. The doctor, whose life appears to have been passed under thrilling conditions, is always ready to complement the adventures of the boys with the recital of some more wonderful ones of his own, and readers venture the assertion that the youth who goes steadily through Knox's book will have the North American fauna so mixed and jumbled together in his mind that he will be glad of a long respite from sporting literature.
