This article presents information on the book "Buddhist Birth Stories; or Jataka Tales," by T.W. Rhys Davids. It is informed that the said book contains a translation of forty Jataka stories, or birth-tales, from the Jataka collection of Ceylon. There are in the Southern Buddhist collection five hundred and fifty of these tales-- at least it is currently reported that this is the exact number. The great interest attaching to the Buddhist Jatakas is derived from the fact that many of them have been discovered among the sculptures of the Buddhist Stupas, recently found in India. Mr. Davids refers to some of these at Sanchi and Bharhut.
