This article presents information about politics. The drift of things in most of the Southern States of the U.S. is evidently in the direction of new political formations. The number of people who are getting tired of a stupid, bigoted party policy is constantly increasing. The most stubborn struggle against party disintegration seems to be made in South Carolina. The newspaper "Herald" is publishing a series of articles urging the recall of Lowell, on the single ground that Lowell, however fit for the place he may be in other respects has the capital defect of not enjoying the confidence of the American Irish. The list of Irish-American citizens whom he was some time ago accused of having allowed to languish in British dungeons, is somehow not forthcoming.
