The action of Governor Robert Emory Pattison, in calling a special session of the Pennsylvania Senate, to inquire into the grave charges made against the State Treasurer and Auditor-General, with a view to their removal from office in case the charges are sustained, causes a great commotion throughout the State. Although the Senate has a strong Republican majority, there appears to be a general expectation, that its inquiry will be more thorough and fearless, and consequently more damaging, than any similar examination yet made into Republican misdoings in the State. Quay's views of what constitute the duty of public officials towards public money have been in active operation.
