This article focuses on three plays "Serious Money," by Caryl Churchill, "Breaking the Code," by Hugh Whitemore, and "The Mahabharata." "Serious Money" is not neatly constructed in the Terence Rattigan school of playwrighting; it is more like a fast-moving entertainment, with characters that are hardly subtle but viciously drawn, like clever caricatures. The play is so fast-paced that at times one can't follow the dialogue. "Breaking the Code" is about "the system," in this case British justice that until the 1960s made male homosexuality a crime. "The Mahabharata," written in Sanskrit, is about fifteen times the length of the Bible. It tells the story of the Pandava brothers and their cousins the Kauravas, among whom there are 100 sons.
